Blog from Charli

Vibby-only the moments that matter
A few days ago, Mrs Knofflock taught us how to use Vibby, a website designed to take out particular parts of a youtube video. With Mrs Knofflocks' help, we made an account and composed a Vibby video using a random youtube clip. First we had to choose the part of the video we were going to use for the Vibby. Then we had to paste the youtube link onto Vibby and pause and play when we wanted to highlight the needed part. After we thought we had finished, we pressed 'Finish Vibby' and TADAA! We had completed our Vibby. Vibby started with a simple mission, to help the world make the most of a video. Vibby now has a crew of seven video geeks who help the online needs. They are even asking for more help! Vibby has a blog! Vibby's motto is, "only the moments that matter'. And I must say, I am glad someone thought of Vibby!

My Fantail Poem

Hi my name is Nicholas we have been writing poetry with Mrs Wallace since Term 2
I would like to share one of the poems that I have written that I am proud of.

Fantail

Clouds crowding
sky bucketing  rain
beautiful vibrant colours
surrounding the fantail
he spreads his wings out
Fanning his tail as he scours for food.
Twigs snapping as he flies
to different trees nothing
his last spot for food was the New Zealand bushes
at last heart stopped beating after he saw
A plethora of insects.
The bitter breeze carrying along as something giant appears
Out of nowhere the wind stops everything goes quiet some sort
Of bright light shimmers throughout the trees shining through the stars ...

Baileys bird poem

On Wednesdays and Thursdays Mrs Wallace teaches in Room 2. Most of the time we do really cool pieces of writing and then turn them into poems. In our poems we do things such as: alliteration, short sharp sentences, juxtaposition and a narrative process. Some of the main focus in our poems were things like birds, snakes, volcanoes, winter and night storms.
Walt: choose and use effective languageJuveniles have yellow eyerings

Beauty in the air
Cheeky smile glued on his beak
Kea perching
Rocks crumbling
He looks at the sky hoping to fly
Wings opening in the sunlight
Metallic feathers glowing
Chirp echoing
Eyes glistening
Wings whistling
Flowers swaying
Chirping loudly
He stands proud while he carefully lands
As the sun sets,
He sees the top of a human head.
He's scared
He flies away leaving a few,
Glistening feathers...

Poems with Mrs Wallace

Recently in Term 3 we have been doing story starters in writing with Mrs Wallace. Each time we had a different genre like mystery, adventure, science fiction etc.   We would start the story but not finish it. Our goal was to build tension to make the story interesting.  We also had to focus on having a similar amount of dialogue for both action and scene. Down below is my science fiction story starter which I was most proud of out of all my story starters.

I slowly crawled out of bed and glanced at the clock.
Oh no it was 8:20 there was no way I would be on time to school.
I was imagining Stella,Estelle and Skye waiting for me.
I got ready as quick as I could and sprinted off.
"Wait up!" I shouted to my friends who were now walking towards the school.
"Where were you?" asked Stella
I kicked the pebbles and ignored her.
10 mins later we arrived to the school.
Again we could already hear the screaming from the classroom in the hallway.
We put our bags down then suddenly there was a flash in whole school.
"What was that?" Estelle asked in fear.
All four of us started walking back to the door.
Then Stella pointed out a purple spiral on the wall at the end of the hallway.
We noticed something else strange; there was no other kids it was silent.
"Where have they gone?" Skye said
We finally found a kid shivering in the corner.
We then started walking to the kid then he got pulled into the purple spiral.
I gasped
"what was happening?" I asked to my friends doubting they would know.
Where did he portal lead to?
Before I knew it we were falling into the portal as well.

Teresa's Olympic news report

Here in Rm 2 we have been doing lots of work on the Olympics lately and one of the things we did was Mrs Knofflock got Rm 2 to each pick an athlete from the Rio 2016 Olympics and write a news report on them.
We decided on our success criteria before writing and used this to help us throughout the process.  We did a draft in our Written Language books and then published it onto a google drawing. The athlete I picked was Rosie Maclennan from Canada who won gold in the women's individual trampolining event. Hopefully you enjoy reading and find out a bit more about her. It was really fun to do and we all found out much more about different Olympic athletes.

Olympic Uniform Designs
Due to the Olympics in Rio we have decided to design our own Olympic uniform. We could make the uniform for any sport in the olympics. We had free range and could include anything that we thought would be useful and needy for the particular sport. It had to show New Zealand's culture and things significant about our country, if it be a koru, a fern or something that we felt linked with, it could be anything. It had to include colour and needed to show what the sport was by the look of it. Our class really enjoyed doing it because it let us be creative and it let us design something we really, really like.
I decided to design a uniform for archery because not many people know much about archery and don't know what happens. I feel that hidden sports should be appreciated most. I have a singlet, shorts, a bag for arrows and gloves so that the bow doesn't hurt their fingers.
This is the start of my sports t-shirt. I think some of Room Two's outfits are ready for the athletes!

Jonathan's Storm Poem

Storm Poem

I was at home all alone apart from the families old TV.
There was an intense storm blaring outside.
The TV and lights started flickering a little bit.
The flickering became more intense.
The lightning had knocked down a powerline.
Finally the lights faded out.
All he could see was darkness.
All I could hear was the sound of my breath getting louder and faster.
I listened to the thunder and lightning going crack and bang.
I was scared and I quivered like crazy.
I slipt into my room and fell onto my bed.
My eyes were drooping.
When I finally started to doze off.
I heard a walloping bang of the front door.
I thought to myself 'What could it be? Is it a burglar?'
And finally, I thought 'Am I going to die?'
Suddenly my bedroom door opened revealing a dark shadow.
My heart was practically jumping out of my chest.
I opened my mouth to scream but nothing came out.
Finally the shadow said to me
"Are you alright son?"

Room 2's Breakout!

Room 2 had a great time doing breakout. This time we had to solve an ancient Roman mystery. We had to solve puzzles that had; coordinates, roman numerals, and online quizzes. We learnt that we had to work together to be successful and solve the breakout. Our main  focus this time was to work as a team and use everybody's strengths on certain things. We solved the breakout and as a reward, Mrs Knofflock gave us five thousand house points and a free game!
Solving an online quiz
trying to work out a puzzle
Trying to figure out a code.
Working as a team.
